大部分中国城市的土地利用混合度较高。除了少数大规模集中开发的社区外，社区公园很难在实际的城市建设中得以实施。即使少数建成的社区公园体系，也由于许多社区的封闭式管理，社区中的小游园公共性较差，得不到充分的利用。而且，在现存的城市肌理中，尤其是在老城区，社区级公园绿地严重缺失。更不要说景观设计了。

景观设计事务所设计的 island-West Park西岛公园是一个社区公园，虽然建成不久但公园里面的植物已经有不少年代的历史。当地的乡土树种星星点点布局在视野开阔的社区公园中。构成一种很好的社区景观。island-West 公园的主要功能是满足社区大人小孩的运动和娱乐需求。为此景观设计师在公园里面设计了雕塑般的滑板场地，成圈的跑道以及位于中心位置的儿童游乐场所。儿童游乐场所的景观设计概念是垂直森林，如同森林般的木柱上面串起几个立方体，封闭安全的圈道能保证儿童的安全，当儿童在其中爬上爬下，穿梭与立方体中时。他们的家长可以在一旁安心的等待。除此之外。社区儿童活动空间也给大人预留了空间。让小孩和大人可以在一起玩耍，家长可以攀爬在巨石壁上，孩子们则可以抓取并从一个立方体爬到通过巨石壁。孩子们的游乐场也变成了成人的游乐场。也许这就是island-West Park西岛公园社区景观设计的优秀之处。
　滑板和玩耍的景观设计。材质都经过了设计师考虑。与轨道的黑暗沥青相映成趣。作为一个社区公园，以人为本，整合游戏和运动是基本的。
　　The Park island-West is the community park of the new district Blokhoeve. The park was designed by DijkCo landscape architecture. It is a hilly grassland with loosely scattered trees.　Although it is a new park， the trees are quite old; several years ago the existing hungarian oak and linden trees were replanted， stored and placed 　back in the park after the construction period. The pathsystem is designed as a liquid gel that connects all entrances and includes the sports- and　playgrounds as a logical but playful pattern. The old location contained an old running track that was integrated in the new design. It now is a fresh running and skating track， that encloses the new sports and play functions.
　　The skate and play landscape was designed by Carve. The skate objects stick to the inside edge of the track， and are made of light coloured concrete that forms a nice contrast with the dark asphalt of the track. Being a neighborhood park with a sporty character， the choice was made to integrate game and sport in the play objects， too. The play object， with its vertical tree trunk forest， balances the vertical direction of the mature 　trees in the park. The play cubes， which hang tilted between trunk forest， are designed from the scale and perception of the child. The exterior of the same play objects， however， is a professional boulder wall， so parents are challenged to climb on it. The playcubes are placed quite high to prevent small children to climb on the outside. Nevertheless， children can crawl and climb from one cube to the other through elevated climbing paths. Two worlds are united in one object: they dont blend but they do meet. With this， the childrens playground also becomes a playground for adults.
