Located in the interior of the state of São
Paulo, the orange harvesting farm requested to Bruno Rossi Architects, based in
São Paulo and Campinas (Brazil), to develop a space that would receive its field
workers. With 80.0m², the proposal was to integrate the module to the horizon and
bring shelter to the users without disconnecting the space from nature.
The program has changing rooms, kitchen and
dining area, in addition to serving as a space where employees find rest, and relaxation. The
project is inspired by the concrete block, so traditional in brazilian architecture.
Its dimensions are modulated according to the dimensions of this material, which
was used as a structural element of the work.
In the main elevations, the concrete block works
as a hollow element, creating a filter between the internal and external areas,
dialoguing eith the different incidences of sunlight throughout the day. According
to Bruno Rossi, “the hollow element in the gables dissolves the limits, allowing
the colors of the surroundings, ventilation and natural lighting to enter the environment,
without a physical barrier”.
Having the concrete blocks as protagonists of
the project, it was decided to keep them in their original appearance, without any
other coatings or painting. The other materials, such as a slab in prefabricated
concrete slabs, granite flooring and glass enclosures were the choices that maintained
the neutrality of these elements.
In the evening time, the building lights up
and emanates light through its hollow gables, bringing a point of reference in the
field without interfering with the natural shadows, also offering comfort to the
local fauna.
