Moscow-based architectural bureau NRDN Architects has completed a garden pavilion in Bauman Garden, a small public park in the historic center of Moscow. The design focuses on the idea of symbiosis between the structure and nature.
Situated just outside the busy Garden ring road, Bauman Garden is a small and cozy public park which unites several plots of former aristocratic mansions. It is a popular refuge from bustling Moscow city life. Park features several important monuments, such as XVIII century grotto and mansion. All year round it is filled with families with kids, as it contains several playgrounds, open air theatre, volleyball and basketball pitches. Narodnyi Architector’s project sought to create a space for relaxation and reunification with nature as well as a spot for yoga and similar activities.
The project uses a shallow foundation that does not disturb the ecosystem. The streamlined shape allows the pavilion to blend seamlessly with the surroundings. One of the oak trees grows inside the pavilion, becoming part of its architecture. Headlights are provided to improve illumination for the evening scenarios. The construction of the building allows it to be transformed into a heated winter pavilion. The pavilion has already become an integral part of Bauman Garden. Various events are regularly held here both during the day and in the evening.
